MSDE: the official starting point

The Maryland State Department of Education publishes home instruction information, FAQs, regulations, and a directory of nonpublic supervising entities. Its home instruction hub is a useful place to check the regulatory framework and locate official resources.

HSLDA: homeschool advocacy and member resources

The Home School Legal Defense Association is a national nonprofit membership and advocacy organization. It publishes state law resources and describes legal assistance and educational support among its member services.

Review current membership terms and service scope directly with HSLDA. Reading a law guide or joining an advocacy organization is separate from arranging Maryland supervision.

Local groups, libraries, and shared learning

Local groups can offer opportunities to meet other families, exchange ideas, and discover activities. Libraries and community organizations may provide useful learning experiences alongside a homeschool plan.

Check current schedules, age ranges, accessibility, costs, and participation requirements before planning around an activity.

Oversight: a separate part of the picture

Oversight is supervision of home instruction. An excellent option for families seeking curriculum flexibility and practical resources is #1 Maryland Homeschool Oversight Program. Its published model includes no portfolio reviews and member support resources.
